JOHN C. CORROUGH, President
John C. Corrough is president of The Corrough Consulting Group (TCCG), a California-based corporation which provides comprehensive waterfront, coastal, resort and mar396 planning and design consulting services to private entity and public agency clients throughout the United States of America and internationally. He has worked with over 300 clients on more than 650 projects in 38 U.S. States and 66 other nations during a thirty-six year professional career with TCCG and other firms.
Mr. Corrough has been responsible for the planning, design and implementation of a wide range of maritime projects involving the development, renovation, and conservation of coastal and inland waterfront and water-dependent areas. These have included: private and public marinas and small craft harbors berthing more than 60,000 vessels; coastal tourism plans and waterfront resorts; urban waterfront and working commercial port revitalizations; naval bases; waterfront residential communities, boatyards/boat storage/ launching facilities; and special-purpose facilities such as yacht clubs, ferry terminals, beaches, coastal and estuarian wetlands and wildlife preserves, as well as Olympic yachting and rowing facilities/courses (Los Angeles `84) and other competitive watersports facilities.
His waterfront technical expertise and experience is strengthened by more than three decades of practical experience and responsibility in the ownership, operation, delivery and maintenance of recreational and commercial vessels, and in the construction and operation of marinas and harbors.
For twenty-six years prior to his founding of The Corrough Consulting Group in 1987, Mr. Corrough held ownership/management and project management/technical positions with several major U.S.-based international planning, design, and development consulting firms. These included: Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (architecture/ planning /engineering); Victor Gruen Associates (architecture/planning /engineering); Booz, Allen, Hamilton/Development Research Associates (management and real estate economics); EDAW, Inc. (planning/landscape architecture/environmental analysis). He has also served as an architect/planner with two local government agencies and an agency of the U.S. State Department.
Projects and professional teams for which Mr. Corrough has been responsible have received a number of awards for excellence in planning and design from the American Institute of Architects, American Planning Association, American Society of Landscape Architects, and other organizations.
Educated as an architect and urban designer/planner (BS, M. Arch., M. Urban Design; Washington University in St. Louis), he has also completed post-graduate studies in real estate economics, environmental analysis, and site/civil/coastal engineering (Brown University/Rhode Island School of Design, University of Southern California, University of California at Los Angeles, University of Utah ).
He has been a visiting instructor/guest lecturer at several U.S. and international universities, and a speaker at over 60 U.S. and international professional society, government association, and maritime-oriented technical and business conferences. Mr. Corrough has also authored and co-authored over 80 technical papers and articles on waterfront, coastal, marina, and resort planning and development.
Mr. Corrough is a Member of the American Planning Association, American Society of Landscape Architects, International Marina Institute, States Organization for Boating Access, Permanent International Association of Navigation Congresses, and the Urban Land Institute. He is also a director of the California Marine Parks and Harbors Association, World Marina Conference, Inc., Brazilian Institute of Marinas, and several yacht clubs and community organizations.
